Maybe you left religion, came out, or both, years ago. You built a career, a home, a life of your own. But when a big decision comes up, you still check it against a voice that isn't yours.
You hit the milestones you were supposed to want. They still don't feel like yours.
Choices about how you live still get checked against people who aren't in the room.
You research, ask around, make the list, and still hand the final call to someone else.
None of these voices are yours, but they're still talking. Left alone, they don't fade. They show up in the next decision, and the one after that.
Before I became a coach, things were going well...on paper. I worked in tech, including at Microsoft, and studied at Yale University. Underneath that, I was leaving the religion I grew up in and coming out as queer. I had spent years living by rules and expectations that weren't mine, and I had to figure out what I actually believed and wanted.
What helped most was learning to listen to myself again. It happened slowly, one decision at a time, and coaching was a big part of the journey back to myself.
That's where KA comes from. KA stands for kol atzmi, Hebrew for "my own voice." Helping people find theirs again is the heart of my work.
Today I work with adults who are queer, ex-religious, or both, who've rebuilt the outside of their lives and are ready to trust the inside: the career decision, the relationship question, the family boundary. In our sessions, you get room to say what you actually want, and permission to say no to what you don't. Then we work out how to act on it.
I'm currently working toward my ICF coaching certification through the Institute of Integrative Intelligence.
My clients have already gotten plenty of input from friends, family, books, and podcasts. So we start somewhere else: with what you already know, and why it's been hard to listen to.
Notice whose voice has been making your decisions. Learn to tell your own apart from inherited rules, anxiety, and shame.
Claim your values, your wants, your right to say no. Let go of the rules that aren't.
Test your voice on real choices, then make the decision you've been stuck on and build from there.
Here's what happened once people started trusting themselves.
"Shayna skillfully guided me to clarity for what next steps in my business development are actually in tune with my personal values, strengths, and circumstances. This revealed my assumptions that blocked me from completing my project. Their careful listening, intentional questions, and gentle redirections let me see clearly the next steps that are actually personally relevant to me. I feel so grateful and relieved to realize the answers were inside me - I just needed skilled help to connect the dots."
"I was hesitant at first because I worried I'd be told what to do or pushed into a decision or understanding that wasn't really mine. Instead, the sessions gave me the space to find my own answers. One of the biggest shifts was gaining clarity about different aspects of myself, which helped me think through a lot of major things. What I appreciated most about Shayna's coaching style was that they never told me what to do. They asked guiding questions that helped me uncover and gain clarity, and to be able to come to my own conclusions."
